Pat's Plunge

Well he did it. In the words of the esteemed Mayor of Williamsville, NY, "Let's not think of this as a beginning (pause)..."

Okay I admit it, I was thinking "No, let's think of this as the end of life as Pat knows it!" I was chuckling inside, not because I think Pat's making a mistake (trust me he's not. Now Jen on the other hand...;-) ). I was laughing because I think the mayor forgot where he was for a moment. It was as if he had presided over more funerals than weddings! Now before the expanding hordes of fans of my blog once again think I'm a terrible person, let me explain. Without awkward pauses, forgotten toasting glasses and favors (that was my wedding), broken air conditioning on a 95 degree day, in fact without mishaps of any sort, the day is not nearly as memorable. Life's imperfections give it character. If life were all silicon boobs, butts, and perfectly sculpted bodies like on the cover of most magazines, it would actually be very dull (after I ran out of one dollar bills anyway!). We need mistakes because without them we never learn to laugh at ourselves. Without the realization that we all screw up, sometimes in a big way, we might not realize that we are all more alike than different.

I was a bit above the mean age of my table at the reception. This became clear when the DJ played a song that Pat remembered from 3rd grade. I remembered it from high school graduation. The crew from Providence College grew through the Gulf War, Clinton and now Bush. I grew through post-Vietnam, Reagan and the Cold War. We have different experiences and thus different perspectives on life, and yet I sensed we all have one very common trait which surpasses all differences. We all believe that the truest threat to mankind is the closed mind.

To the gang from P.C.: It was an honor to spend time with you, I hope we meet again.

To Pat and Jen: Thank you for letting Leanna and I share in your day. Best wishes and enjoy Bermuda. I know we did.

Diaper Follow-Up

During my indoctrination into the world of diaper technology, I recall thinking "Wow, these things are incredible! Look at all the fluid they hold!" Yes their capacity seemed limitless.

Well it's not, and let me tell you when they go, they go BIG. There was a major flood in the highchair last night. Ironically the diaper had a picture of Elmo wearing a snorkel. Very appropriate!.

Today's Wine Recommendation

Tommasi Pinot Grigio

Okay, I admit I grabbed the bottle because the name of the vineyard was the similar to a famous italian road bike frame (Tommaso), but that aside, I was pleasantly surprised. Quite fruity, with a hint of "granny smith" apples in the bouquet. At $12 a bottle it's reasonably priced. Give it a try the next time you're looking for a white.
